Plus tips, news & Buffer updates for your social media journey
Update: I'm home! Empty bank account and severe jet lag despite only switching timezones that were two hours ahead at most aside, I had the best time on vacation. If you get an update from me in a few months that I've once again left my home shores, just know it's not me — it's the travel bug. Threads turns 1 this week (π), and there has been think piece after think piece on its progress and its future. The clearest sign of where the Threads team is taking the platform comes from Casey Newton's interview with Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, for his newsletter Platformer. Adam sums up year one like this, "… I want to build the best platform for sharing ideas online. […] That will take some time, but I will consider it a failure if we don't get there." I don't know about you, but I'm watching eagerly to see its evolution. In other news, I recommend changing your Threads app icon to one of the 6 options in honor of its birthday — I went for the silver. That's it from me — have a lovely weekend, and I'll see you next Friday. |

π️ Deep dive: 6 Threads content ideas for your next post | |
|
Spending time on Threads has made me realize that not all creator strategies are equal, and some people have a more instinctual grasp on social platforms than others. The creators on my list all inspire me in some way, and I wanted to share the lessons I've gathered from them: - From @hey.rachael: Find a way to mix practical and personal content within your niche — a content series featuring advice that has helped you might be a good place to start.
- From @mattnavarra: Look for recent updates in your industry and share them along with your take, whether expert or amateur.
- From @crumbler: If you have content you're making outside of Threads, cut it up and add a little additional context. This doesn't have to be just a newsletter — clips from your YouTube videos or even just cross-posting your Reels can fill up your content calendar nicely.
- From @the_sierranicole: Even if your preferred content pillars are seemingly too different to really blend together, there's always an intersection – you.
- From @lennox_saint: If you've found a golden path in your niche, lean into it and build your content strategy around showing others the way.
- From @amberfiglow: Experiment with different post types to find your sweet spot.
- From @rita_codes: Do you already have a winning content format? Don't put pressure on yourself to change anything—try cross-posting first and then redirecting your audience to see how you perform.

π±Social tip of the week from Mitra, Buffer's Social Media Manager |
"I love you, it's ruining my life…" (TikTok ver.) (Instagram ver.) This trend involves you showing something you can't stop thinking about (to the point that it's become a distraction from things like vacations or work). If I were a small business or creator, I might say, "When I'm trying to enjoy my time off but I keep thinking about that new project/product I'm working on." As a social media manager, I might say, "When I'm trying to scroll through social media to relax, but I keep analyzing every post I see." Here's an example from @nurse.alexrn on TikTok, who shares how they can't stop thinking about their cute cat at work. I can definitely relate (but the good news is, I work from home, so I get to hang out with my cats all day π). |
