Justin Bieber Gets All The Post-Coachella Love |

Justin Bieber is the king of streaming this week after a groundbreaking, Coachella-headlining set put him at the center of the cultural conversation. |
Why It Hits: Bieber’s superstar week — even by superstar standards — is proof that few stages are as high-profile as a headlining slot at Coachella. But it’s what he did with his set that proves music fans are embracing out-of-the-box storytelling that cuts through the noise. |
Behind The Music: This week, everyone seems to be a Belieber. |
According to Variety, Bieber hit No. 1 on Spotify’s Global Top Artist chart, racking up 77 million streams the day after his performance.
A record 21 of his songs entered Spotify’s Global Top 200, including past hits like “Beauty and a Beat” and “Baby.”
The gains were similar on Apple Music — streams across his entire catalog jumped 80% after his set.
His back-to-back 2025 albums, SWAG and SWAG II, also saw listenership rise 80%.
|
Encore: It’s hard not to have caught wind of the discourse around Bieber’s fascinating Coachella set, which featured a 25-minute portion where he sat down with his laptop and fired up old YouTube videos from throughout his career. He dueted with his teenage self, laughed at viral clips, and scrolled through YouTube like it was 2011 all over again… only this time in front of 130,000 people and for $10 million. |
While some called it lazy, creator Samir Chaudry of Colin & Samir pointed out that Bieber is the poster boy for being discovered on YouTube, calling it “an ode to the early days of the internet, the version of the internet that made him, and a reminder of everything we've lost since.” In other words, it was a unique form of nostalgia that spoke directly to the millennials who grew up alongside him and the internet. It was a story only Bieber could really tell. |
No wonder fans are playing him on repeat — they’re recapturing their childhoods. |
Next Set: Bieber has largely avoided touring over the past four years, but expect him to announce his own version of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to take the vibe worldwide… as long as his Weekend 2 set makes just as many waves. |

Fantasy Authors Want Hollywood To Stick To The Book |
 |
The Battle for Adaptations // Image by Kait Cunniff with DALL-E |
|
Best-selling authors like George R.R. Martin and Brandon Sanderson are increasingly taking their gripes with adaptations of their work public — potentially sabotaging major IP investments. |
The Big Picture: Authors have always had complicated feelings about movies and shows based on their books, especially when they stray from the source material. But aside from a few infamous examples, authors mostly kept quiet to avoid spoiling the experience for audiences. Those days seem to be long gone… even when they’re still technically part of the project. |
Behind The Scenes: The book-to-screen pipeline is getting sabotaged. |
Brandon Sanderson has criticized Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, saying his input was “largely ignored.”
Andrzej Sapkowski said he “cannot praise” Netflix’s The Witcher because the show’s creators “never listened to me.” (The criticism may have even contributed to star Henry Cavill’s departure.)
George R.R. Martin reportedly had a falling out with House of the Dragon co-showrunner Ryan Condal after he “stopped listening to me.” (Martin does love the new A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, though.)
|
Final Adaptation: Queensland University of Technology professor and digital trends scholar Amanda D. Lotz told THR that the phenomenon is heating up because social media has changed the game. Authors now have a direct relationship with their audience, and stan culture makes serving the most passionate fans paramount. And with streaming series offering more room to breathe and explore subplots, authors believe there’s finally enough space to adapt stories without compromise. |
That creates a perfect storm in which authors, comic-book creators, and video game designers feel empowered to share their unfiltered opinions and demand a greater role in how their works are adapted across mediums. |
Coming Soon: Get ready for top authors to start contractually demanding creative control over how their works are adapted… which could flip the power dynamic in Hollywood development. |

29.9% of you voted Rarely in yesterday’s poll: How often do you use AI tools? |
“Mostly when I Google something and forget to specify no AI.” |
“I work in an industry with a lot of AI-obsessed startup culture, but I almost never use AI for personal use. It’s too destructive to the environment, and frankly, the only way I think AI would be authentically useful is if everyone could make and train their own.” |
“Honestly, at this point, I don’t even know how I got through the day without it.” |
“DAILY! All the time! Up your level.” |
“Multiple times a day for work, because I am expected to do more with fewer resources and less time. Only occasionally for personal use.” |
