I recorded a podcast episode today (in person!) with Chenell and Dylan from Growth in Reverse. We talked about memberships, and Chenell asked me what the biggest mistake creators make when starting one is. I thought I'd share my answer here today too... Every creator is different in their strengths, weaknesses, and — most importantly — the way they WANT to engage with their own community. The BIGGEST mistake I see creators make is failing to design their community experience to fit their own design constraints. Let me give you an example. A common concern I hear is that creators worry they are signing up for a giant weekly (or even daily) time commitment. Which could be true! I spend a ton of time in The Lab every week. But it doesn't have to be true. If you want (or need) to limit the amount of time you spend inside your membership, you can design for that constraint. If you don't design for that constraint, you may end up trapped in a system of your own (lack of) design. Thoughtfully designing your membership is the most important step in launching (and sustaining) it. NOT thoughtfully designing it is the biggest mistake you can make. We'll cover how to design your membership for your constraints at the Membership Summit! → Register for free here You'll leave with a 90-day roadmap to design your own membership, focused on your constraints and the current market landscape. Hope to see you there! Cheers,
