| ‘Wellness’ Peptides: What Doctors Want You to Know |

An FDA advisory committee recently voted to ease restrictions on six peptides — including BPC-157, KPV, and TB-500 — touted for wound healing, obesity, and wellness. The panel voted against recommending only one substance, emideltide, evaluated for sleep.
It is important to note that these panel recommendations are non-binding, meaning the FDA must still make the final regulatory decision. Even if permitted for compounding, these substances remain unapproved by the FDA and have been evaluated only for specific use cases, not for general safety or long-term effectiveness.
Currently, the only peptide medications supported by clinical review and extensive testing are FDA-approved treatments such as insulin and GLP-1s. Because these unapproved injectable peptides marketed for wellness lack sufficient scientific evidence, doctors and experts, including a group of FDA scientists, have expressed strong safety concerns about their ongoing use.
