| Protein, protein, protein! It’s been the hottest nutrition buzzword for a long time now. From chips to snack bars to cereal, pretty much all packaged food items are protein-packed these days. But soda?! |
| Protein sodas offer a carbonated dose of everyone’s favorite macronutrient. Some contain up to 30 grams of the stuff! But while it may be tempting to throw back a couple of cans and call it good on your daily protein intake, the expert we talked to didn’t think that was a great move. |
| “For starters, they’re processed and often contain added sweeteners, flavors, stabilizers, and other ingredients,” says Rachael Ajmera, MS, RD, dietitian, writer, and Nutrimental founder. “Similar to protein powders, most clear protein brands also don’t provide any other nutrients, unless they’re fortified.” |
| So while it’s always best to get the majority of your nutrients and calories from whole foods, protein sodas can be a convenient and fun way to add some more protein into your day. Our testers were the most excited about these two drinks. |

| What our dietitian says: She ranked it No. 1 over everything we tested. It contains a moderate amount of protein, using a combination of whey protein isolate and collagen peptides. And it’s the lowest calorie option if that’s something you track. |

| What our dietitian says: “I like that it’s free of added sugar and provides several B vitamins, including niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and biotin,” says Ajmera. But she cautions that it does contain sucralose, an artificial sweetener, whereas Waay contains only natural sweeteners. |
